How do you make a spray tan last longer?

Moisturise every day, have short lukewarm showers, pat dry instead of rubbing, and avoid long baths, hot tubs, swimming and oil based products for the first few days. Shave gently with a sharp razor and plenty of conditioner. Exfoliate only when you’re ready for it to come off.

A good spray tan should last around a week and fade evenly, like a natural tan. How you look after it makes a big difference.

Here’s the aftercare we give every client.

The first shower

Wait the time we tell you for your tan, then rinse with lukewarm water only. No shower gel, no scrubbing. Pat yourself dry gently. Our shower guide has the details.

Every day after

  • Moisturise morning and night. Hydrated skin holds colour longer and fades evenly. Dry skin flakes and takes the tan with it.
  • Short, lukewarm showers. Hot water and long soaks speed up fading.
  • Pat dry, don’t rub with the towel.
  • Gentle shaving. A sharp razor and a creamy shave product, with long strokes.

What to avoid for the first few days

  • Long baths, saunas, steam rooms and hot tubs.
  • Swimming pools, chlorine strips colour.
  • Body scrubs, exfoliating mitts and harsh shower gels.
  • Very oily products, which can break the tan down.
  • Tight clothes rubbing the same spot all day.

Tans for events

If it’s for a wedding, Ayr Races or a holiday, timing matters as much as aftercare. Most people book one to two days before. See how far in advance to get a spray tan.

When it starts to fade

Once it’s patchy, a warm soak and gentle exfoliation takes off the rest, so your next tan goes on a clean base. Regular clients usually rebook every one to two weeks, and our loyalty card gives you 20% off your 6th tan.
