Step 1: Prepping Your Skin for Self-Tanning
So, you’re ready to glow up? Before you grab your Bondi Sands, or St. Tropez, let’s talk prep. Smooth, well-prepped skin is key to a flawless finish.
Here’s what to do:
✔️ Hair removal: Shave or wax at least 8 hours (ideally a day) before tanning. This avoids irritation & gives the skin time to settle. Smooth Skin = Better Results.
✔️ Exfoliate: Use a gentle scrub or exfoliating mitt to slough off dead skin, especially around elbows, knees, ankles, and hands.
✔️ Moisturise: Lightly hydrate with a non-greasy lotion, but avoid oil-based products the day of your tan. Oils can mess with how your tan develops.
✔️ Loose clothing only: After tanning, wear comfy, loose-fitting clothes. Go braless or skip tight undies for a few hours, if you can. Friction is the enemy of a fresh tan.

Step 2: Applying Your Tan Like a Pro
Now for the fun bit! Application doesn’t have to be tricky—here’s how to get it right, every time:
- ✨ Start small: Don’t go overboard. Apply a small amount to an area like your forearm and build from there. Better to layer than overdo it.
- ✨ Use a mitt: Always. It helps you apply the product evenly and protects your hands from those dreaded orange palms.
- ✨ Face time: Use a face-specific tanner (or dilute your regular one with moisturiser), and blend carefully into the hairline and jawline with a brush or sponge.
- ✨ Take your time: Rushing leads to streaks. Work in small sections and blend, blend, blend.
- 🍷 Pour a glass of wine, pop on some choons.
Step 3: Aftercare = Longer-Lasting Glow

- ⏳ Avoid water for 8 hours: No showers, sweating, or hand-washing marathons. Let the tan develop.
- 💧 Hydrate daily: Use a light moisturiser to lock in colour and keep skin healthy. Skip oils, they’ll break down the tan faster.
- 🏃♀️ Skip the gym for 24 hrs: Sweat, friction, and tight clothes will fade your glow. Take it easy for a day, you earned it.
