Mobile spray tan or salon, which is better?

Bondi Sands is Bondi Sands whether it is sprayed in a salon in Ayr or in your own spare room in Troon. The product does not know where it is. The difference is everything around it.

Here is the honest version, including where a salon wins.

The comparison

	Mobile	Salon
Price	£20 to £26, no travel charge in most Ayrshire towns	Similar, plus petrol and parking
Travel	None. We come to you	You go there, then home again with a fresh tan on
Privacy	Your own bathroom, nobody else about	Shared space, other customers around
Timing	Evenings and late slots	Salon opening hours
Groups	Everyone done in one visit at yours	Everyone books separately
Kids	Fine. They can run about, we do not mind	You need childcare
Short notice	Depends on the diary	Often easier for a same day walk in
Space needed	About a shower cubicle	None, it is their space

Where mobile genuinely wins

The walk home. This is the one nobody mentions until they have done it. You have just had a tan, you are in loose dark clothes, and now you are walking to the car in the Ayrshire rain. It is grim, and it can mark the tan.

Privacy. A lot of people, especially first timers, are nervous. Being in your own bathroom rather than a room full of strangers makes an enormous difference. We have had clients say outright they would never have booked at all if it meant going to a salon.

Groups. This is where it is not even close. Five of you getting ready for a wedding or a night out, all done in one living room with a glass of something on the go, versus five separate salon appointments spread across a week.

Evenings. Most salons shut about the time you finish work. We do late appointments because that is when people actually want them.

Kids. Nobody should need a babysitter to get a spray tan. We have tanned plenty of mums with a toddler watching telly in the next room.

Where a salon genuinely wins

We are not going to pretend otherwise.

Same day walk ins. If you decide at two o’clock that you want a tan at four, a salon with a free booth will beat a mobile diary most of the time.

No space at home. If you are in a small flat with one tiny bathroom and nowhere to put the tent, a salon is easier.

You fancy going out. Some people like the treat of going somewhere. That is a perfectly fair reason.

What about the tent?

We bring a pop up tent so nothing goes on your walls, floors or furniture. Couple of minutes to put up, couple of minutes to take down, and it all leaves with us.

It needs about the space of a shower cubicle. Most bathrooms, bedrooms and living rooms are absolutely fine.

The honest summary

Short on time, a bit nervous, kids in the house, or doing a group? Mobile wins comfortably.

Want a walk in this afternoon, or genuinely nowhere to put us? A salon makes more sense.

After sixteen years we would say that for the vast majority of people across Ayr, Prestwick, Troon, Irvine and Kilmarnock, having it done at home turns out to be far less of a performance than they expected.
