Ayr’s biggest festival keeps getting bigger, and bigger acts keep coming with it. Every May we help Ayrshire’s festival-goers get glowing before they hit Low Green, and this year we were down there ourselves.
From a wee beach festival to one of Scotland’s biggest weekends
We wrote about this festival back when it first came to Ayr as a one-day beach event. Since then it’s grown into Pavilion Festival, a proper multi-stage weekend on Low Green with a 5,000-capacity Big Top, headline acts you’d normally have to travel for, and a Street Rave stage bringing back the old school for anyone who was raving in the 90s. Same Ayrshire beach, much bigger production. We’re not surprised it’s still growing, and we love that it’s ours.
We were there, here’s how it went

Carl Cox headlining feels immense for a wee town like ours, and it’s exactly why Pavilion Festival keeps getting talked about. But the bit that really got us was the Street Rave stage, tucked into the main tent. Whoever built that setup deserves a round of applause, honestly chef’s kiss. Walking in gave me proper Slam Tent feels from T in the Park days. I miss T in the Park, so that hit different.
Old school ravers, welcome home
Street Rave is still part of Pavilion Festival, but with older vibes, which suited me and my husband down to the ground. We’ve seen Roger Sanchez more times than we can count since 1998, including at Pacha in Ibiza, and he did not disappoint. Old school mixed with new, everyone happy, everyone dancing.
It was a mostly older crowd with a youthful minority dotted in, no kids, day drinking, old tunes wherever you went, and everyone was so friendly. Loads of dancing like nobody’s watching, some brilliant outfits, my husband’s old school tracksuit got so much love I was getting a little jealous. A proper nostalgia-filled day out.

What we wore
I went for a light-medium Bondi Sands for the day, natural enough for daytime, with enough colour to still glow under the tent lighting come evening.
Held up all day
A full day on your feet, dancing and in and out of the Big Top, is exactly what your tan needs to survive. A lighter shade with a good base coat wears better through a long festival day than going too dark.

Pavilion Festival always sells out, and so do our slots around festival weekend. If you’re going in 2027, get your tan booked in the week before rather than leaving it to the last minute.

What is Pavilion Festival in Ayr?
Pavilion Festival is a multi-stage music festival held on Ayr Low Green every May bank holiday weekend, next to Ayr beach. It grew out of the original Street Rave Ayr Beach Festival and now brings in major headline acts across several stages, including the Street Rave stage for old school dance music fans.
When is Pavilion Festival 2027?
Pavilion Festival takes place every year over the early May bank holiday weekend. Exact 2027 dates are usually confirmed a few months in advance, so keep an eye on our page and book your tan early once they’re announced, spaces go quickly.
What’s the best spray tan shade for a festival?
For a full day (or weekend) of dancing, sun and Ayrshire weather, we usually recommend a light to medium shade like Bondi Sands. It looks natural in daylight, still glows under festival lighting, and holds up better through a long day than a very dark tan.
How long will my tan last through a festival weekend?
With the right prep and aftercare, your tan can easily last 5 to 7 days, more than enough to cover the whole festival and the photos after it. We’ll talk you through prep and aftercare at your appointment.
When should I book my spray tan before Pavilion Festival?
Book the week before if you can. Festival week fills up fast, both for the festival itself and for our appointment slots, so don’t leave it until the last minute.
Do you tan groups going to the festival together?
Yes, get your friends together the night before and we’ll come to you. It’s a lovely way to kick off a festival weekend together, and we tan groups across Ayrshire all the time.
